Dan is a professional French Hornist, and for some twenty years was a well-known tax consultant in the New York City area, specializing in musicians. Although now retired from preparing returns, he continues to share his insights into navigating a tax system not always friendly to musicians.
Topics will include not only what deductions are allowed but also how best to describe them; W-2s vs. 1099s and how to match deductions to your different types of income; how to depreciate your instrument(s) plus what happens when you sell an instrument; deducting a practice studio in your home; what to do with per diem and travel allowances, and more!
